Community fund supports 53 wellbeing hubs

"Thanks to our MK Community Foundation grant, we’ve created 53 YiS Early Support Wellbeing Hubs to support the mental health of 11–25-year-olds across Milton Keynes…"

Who are YiS Young People’s Mental Health and what do they do?

YiS Young People's Mental Health is a long running independent charity that works in Milton Keynes to help young people, as well as the people that support them. They provide counselling, education, training and more to improve mental health and wellbeing in the local area.

What support did YiS Young People’s Mental Health need?

The Hubs Project was an idea developed from the Feedback Forum Project where young people were calling out for a safe space where they could access mental health and wellbeing support at the earliest point of need. YiS wanted to develop that space in various locations across the city to ensure it was accessible to all those who needed support.

What difference did our MK Community Foundation grant make?

Between the beginning of November 2021 and the end of May 2022, they were able to provide 53 Hubs in total; this includes 20 Pop Up Hubs, 17 weekly Fixed Location Hubs, 11 fortnightly Fixed Location Hubs, 3 Crisis Response Hubs, and 2 Mop-up Events. Throughout the project they’ve supported over 370 young people with early intervention mental health and wellbeing information, advice, signposting, and activities.

What do real people say?

“Thank you for giving me the space to talk about what happened and share my feelings. I feel like a weight has been not lifted but shifted.”

- Young Person, 21

“Having a Wellbeing Hub at No95 Jonathans was incredibly successful. The venue lent itself perfectly to the ethos that YiS were trying to create, and the young attendees very quickly relaxed and felt at home there. It was a genuine safe space.”

- Staff at Woughton Community Council
