Our Friend, Ranjit Singh
It feels impossible to put into words what Ranjit Singh meant to us.
He was that truly rare combination of warmth, positivity, and unshakeable conviction; someone who stood firmly for what mattered, but who could also bring lightness, humour and joy into the room. He mattered, deeply, to so many in our community.
Ranjit passed away yesterday and Milton Keynes is worse off.
The work he did was rooted in purpose and meaning. Ranjit was deeply committed to equity and fairness. During his eight years with MK Community Foundation, that commitment shaped everything he did, working to ensure that support flowed not just to the most visible or well-resourced communities, but to every corner of Milton Keynes. He changed countless lives and always, always, put people first.
Those same values prompted him be a co-founder of the MK Ethnic Business Community (MKEBC), creating space for connection, visibility, and opportunity. It was typical of him to spot opportunities to bring people together in a meaningful way and make things happen.
As vital as his work was, what many of us will remember most is the joy he brought to the office, laughing through his daily quiz, proudly wearing his sparkly quiz tie. Or as a beacon of positivity and resilience, returning to work within two weeks of his leg amputation, determined to keep making his mark on our city and community. He was a true force for good.
We're so heartbroken to say goodbye to a friend with the warmest, kindest heart. We were lucky to know Ranjit and for him to be in our lives and luckier still to have been shaped by him. We hope to find ways to continue his legacy in the city.
