On 28th August, we said goodbye to our Director of Finance and Deputy Chief Executive, Laura Keen.
MK Community Foundation have been lucky enough to benefit from Laura’s expertise in finance and passion for the voluntary and cultural sector for nearly 10 years and she will be greatly missed.
When Laura began working at MK Community Foundation, she took responsibility for overseeing our financial strategy and steering us towards new innovative ways to encourage philanthropy including investing in property.
One of Laura’s key achievements, with the help of the then CEO, Julia Upton, was to enable the purchase of Margaret Powell House, the sister building of Acorn House that was gifted to us by the Development Corporation. This enabled MK Community Foundation to develop a range of conference facilities and office spaces which in turn, helped the foundation to support the local community even further.
Laura’s work on the property side of MK Community Foundation has been integral to the charities growth and development; her ability to assess the financial feasibility of development proposals and of groups wishing to benefit from our rent subsidies, has not only helped us to bring income into the organisation but also helped house much of Milton Keynes’ voluntary and community sector.
Laura’s love of the arts has threaded through her time at the foundation, working with and supporting many groups on a voluntary basis including being a Trustee of Milton Keynes Arts Centre and Arts Heritage Alliance MK.
We would like to thank Laura for her invaluable contribution to shaping MK Community Foundation over the past 10 years and we wish her all the best for the future.
