Joe Turney taking the lead

"Occasionally one comes across a talent so outstanding that one feels compelled to encourage it in any way possible. So it is with young MK sporting star Joe Turney.” said Alexander Boswell, President of Milton Keynes Community Foundation

You may have heard of local karting star Joe Turney but for those who haven’t let us fill you in on some of his amazing sporting achievements.

Joe has progressed rapidly in karting and last year was the highlight of his career so far; not only did he become the British No1 seeded driver winning the Rotax British Championship but he also became a No1 in Europe, winning the BNL (Belgian, Netherlands, Luxembourg) Championship series at his first attempt. Not a bad achievement for a 15-year-old!

Milton Keynes Community Foundation, are passionate about promoting local sports stars of the future and we aim to support them in whatever way we can in order for them to achieve their full potential. With this in mind, MK Community Foundation President, Alexander Boswell, arranged a very special event to raise Joe’s profile to prospective supporters and fellow motor enthusiasts and where better to host this prestigious event than the Heritage showroom at Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell.

Supporting our future talent

While absorbing the magnificent beauty of the Aston Martin Heritage vehicles, guests heard about the young karting champion’s journey. Joe’s Mum, spoke about his keen interest in cars from a very early age and his natural aptitude that quickly emerged on the local karting track. Holding the British and a European title in the same year is extremely rare and it is a measure of the talent of the driver and the hard work of everyone behind the scenes at MK based World Championship winning team KR Sport that creates an environment where winning is possible.

But this environment and support doesn't come cheap! Most mums have to consider the cost of purchasing a kit for swimming or Scouts but imagine the cost of supporting your son’s sporting career in motorsport where karting budgets exceed an average family income!

We consider Joe a great investment and have supported him for 2 years in a row through our sports bursary programme. This event provided an opportunity to be an early financial supporter of Joe and make a social investment towards Joe’s future, to help him to move up the competition ladder and compete at the next level and hopefully into Formula 4!

Thank you to everyone who supported Joe at this exciting event and thank you to Aston Martin Works for lending us their heritage showroom which made the whole experience very memorable.

Joe commented
“I am immensely grateful to the MK Community Foundation for their support over the past two years. Finances has always created a ‘glass ceiling’ in my driving career but the Foundation, my supporters, have the potential to allow me to live my dreams, to realise my potential and for Milton Keynes to have a driver at the highest level of single seater racing”.

We are proud to continue being part of Joe’s sporting development and we’re excited to see his career move up a gear. Joe is currently looking to secure a sponsorship deal and would love to hear from potential sponsors or anyone experienced in securing sponsorship to work with him and share his exciting journey.
