Local Sporting Star Eva Durand receives £2,000 Bursary!

Congratulations Eva!

Milton Keynes Community Foundation is proud to partner with Sports MK to award an up and coming local sports star with a bursary of £2,000! The Sports Achiever Awards took place at Denbigh School on 4th December 2018. The bursary award is often essential for the development of local sports talent and can be used to contribute towards costs such as competition fees, coaching, purchasing new equipment and travel expenses.

This year’s winner is Eva Durand - a 14-year-old Javelin thrower currently studying Sport BTEC at Stantonbury International School. Eva is already showing great promise moving up the ranks from 16th in the UK at the end of her 2017 season to 6th in the UK at the end of the 2018 season. Other achievements this year include 2nd at UK Javelin 2018, 3rd at Southern Inter County Championships and 4th at England Athletics National Championships.

Eva has high aspirations, including wanting to compete at the 2024 Olympics for Great Britain and the 2022 Commonwealth games in the Great British Junior Team. Eva’s ambition is to break a World or Olympic record in Javelin.

We asked Eva where she gains her drive; She was excited to tell us about her heroes beginning with Jessica Ennis-Hill DBE. She went on to explain that her dad had introduced her to some past heroes of athletics including, Tessa Sanderson CBE and Fatima Whitbread MBE who she finds inspirational. She also shared with us that she’d been lucky enough to train with Thomas Röhler, German track and field athlete, and found it to be an excellent experience.

Eve Durand, Sports MK 2018 Winner, said
“I couldn't thank Milton Keynes Community Foundation enough for this award, I looking forward to having my own personal javelin and hope that this can inspire the younger generations to not just get into sport but to into the javelin.”

Natalie Jordan, Philanthropy Manager at MK Community Foundation Said
“We were particularly excited to see how quickly Eva had improved her throwing in such a short space of time. It is so important that young athletes from our local area get the support and encouragement they need from their community in order to grow our future sports stars”

MK Community Foundation and Sports MK would like to wish Eva every success with her sporting career!
