MK City Korfball Club is a Community Sports Club that runs 5 senior teams and has 60 adult members. The club have been running a very open youth development programme (MKX) for the last two years and now work in 27 MK schools in addition to providing after-school, youth clubs and holiday schemes. This is the only programme of its kind in Milton Keynes and the surrounding area.
A 3 year plan is now in place to develop the MKX youth programme across the city. This exciting proposal will include the employment of an England Youth Coach to lead and train local coaches. Bids and funding strategies are in place to cover the costs of the programme over the plan period and the recent grant from the Foundation will bridge their current funding gap and ensure the school programme is maintained and coaches are secured.
“The support of the Community Foundation at this time is vital in helping MKX develop youth korfball in Milton Keynes. Korfball is an exciting sport played by boys and girls together that is great for improving fitness and requires collaboration and teamwork. In the year ahead MKX will work with 5,000 young people in the Borough from beginner to England standard. MKX will develop coaches in schools and in clubs to continue to grow korfball in the future. The support of the Foundation will make this possible”.
Darren Gray, Chair of MK City Korfball Club.
The Foundation recognise the club as being a real asset to our city; and by supporting it, we are helping to ensure their sustainability as a sports resource well into the future.
