Arts Bursary Event

Community Foundation Celebrate first Arts Bursary Award

The four bursary finalists demonstrated their talents by showcasing their work to the evenings’ guests.  Local singer/songwriter Nicky Prince performed a soulful solo set, and the presentation of the visual art by both Tomas Georgeson and Annabelle Shelton was very well received.

Bursary winner, Thomas Eccleshare performed a short piece with his partner Valentina Ceschi from his new play 21:13 (pictured right). The play was a smash-hit this summer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and as part of their forthcoming tour they will perform at Madcap Milton Keynes from Oct 22-24th.
Thomas, is the co-artistic director of his theatre company Dancing Brick, the bursary will now allow him to concentrate on forging his career as a theatre-maker.

“ The event has allowed us to celebrate both the  bursary and the extraordinarily promising talents of the finalists for this year’s award.  We are delighted to be able to support local artists and enhance the artistic community in Milton Keynes.” Bart Gamber, Grants Director Community Foundation.

The Foundation extends grateful thanks to event supporters The Slug and Lettuce and Milton Keynes Gallery.

The Foundation’s arts bursary has been devised to encourage artistic endeavours in Milton Keynes and to nurture local talents such as Thomas. The £10,000 annual award is designed to give an emerging artist the opportunity to further develop their artistic skills, or the freedom to concentrate on a new body of work. The funding  can be used to buy equipment, for training or travel, to rent a work space or simply cover living costs. For further information, please contact us on 01908 690276.
