MK Community Property

About Us  MK Community Property

MK Community Properties Ltd is a subsidiary of the Milton Keynes Community Foundation, which owns and manages a portfolio of property and land for the benefit of the local community.

The company provides extensive rent subsidies to local charities and voluntary sector organisations, and any surpluses made are then passed over to the Foundation for grant-making.

The properties were originally gifted to the Foundation by the Milton Keynes Development Corporation and the Commission for New Towns in 1987. The Corporation recognised the importance of offering an attractive and thriving city to families and companies, which were considering moving into Milton Keynes. As part of their social development policy, the Corporation encouraged and supported a vibrant voluntary sector, in part by providing affordable, good quality premises from which the various groups could operate. That need is as important, if not more so, today.

The property portfolio includes Acorn House, a City Centre office block which is undergoing ongoing refurbishment toward becoming a flagship building for the local voluntary sector..

Local charities operating from Acorn House include Citizens Advice Bureau; Brook Advisory Clinic; MK Council of Voluntary Organisations; MK Racial Equality Council; Home–Start and Family Mediation.

More information on the new services, facilities and shared resources can be found on the Acorn House website: www.acornhousemk.co.uk.

MK Community Properties Ltd also owns two industrial units, one at Kiln Farm and another at Stacey Bushes, where the Play Association, SNAP (Special Needs Advancement Project), MK Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Group and others operate.

Plots of land, known as Community Reserve Sites, are also available for disposal for community benefit. Also a gift from the Development Corporation, the sites were made available so that the Property Company would ensure groups such as the scouts and guides, church groups and drop in centres for older people or families would all benefit.

Community Reserve Sites are released as leasehold* sites to benefit the local community. The Property Company also retains some of the sites with a view to meeting the future needs of the growth of Milton Keynes.
