To mark their 75th birthday, the NHBC held a celebratory event at their head-office in Knowlhill. To show their support for the MK Community Foundation’s Surviving Winter Appeal they chose the YMCA Milton Keynes as the local charity that would receive their birthday cake, and will look at other ways to support the campaign in future.
The appeal is raising greatly needed funds to support older and vulnerable people in Milton Keynes who will face the very real issue of whether they can afford to HEAT or EAT this winter. Funds raised will directly support the people the YMCA, Age UK Milton Keynes, The Foodbank and SSAFA Forces Help are in direct contact with, paying for blankets, duvets, emergency food & clothing, kettles, hot water bottles, draft proofing, path clearance, door and window repairs.
Imtiaz Farookhi, Chief Executive of NHBC explains: “The very nature of NHBC’s work over the last three quarters of a century, to raise standards in house-building to protect homeowners, means corporate responsibility is embedded in our vision and values. Earlier this year, NHBC sought to locally support young people and solutions to issues of deprivation through the establishment of a named fund with MK Community Foundation.
Now, through our partnership with MK Community Foundation, we have been able to reach out to directly support the MK YMCA . As we seek to make UK housing sustainable, in part through making new build homes more thermally efficient, fuel poverty and homelessness are undoubtedly pressing issues. The prospect of being without a home as winter approaches, or unable to heat the home you have, is a reality for too many local people. We hope other local businesses will follow suit in supporting this invaluable campaign.”
This is an URGENT APPEAL, please donate whatever you can afford today.
