FOUNDATION CELEBRATES NEW BUILDING FOR VOLUNTARY SECTOR
The site is part of the new Sainsbury’s development created by Abbeygate who made the 5,000 sq ft office site available as part of their contributions to the community.   The official opening will take place in the new year, and  local charity Brook Milton Keynes will be the first tenant;  they provide information and advice on contraception and sexual health to young people.

“This is an extraordinary and very exciting new initiative which the Foundation has been working on for a number of years.  It is really important that the voluntary and community sector has a stake in the city centre so that it can actively contribute to creating a vibrant and well-supported community.  The Foundation is committed to securing affordable accommodation to meet the needs of today and those  in the  future” Julia Upton, Chief Executive, Community Foundation.

The site was gifted by Milton Keynes Partnership to the Community Foundation’s Property Company who manages a portfolio of land and buildings across Milton Keynes.  They work to ensure good quality affordable premises and land are available to the city’s voluntary and charitable sector.  The portfolio includes Acorn House, newly leased Food Bank storage warehouse at Kiln Farm, Age Concern at Peartree Bridge and the purpose built SNAP premises at Walnut Tree.

“From the start of this development we wanted to ensure that the voluntary and community sector would have a presence in Central Milton Keynes.   It is great news that the Community Foundation’s new building will enable Brook Milton Keynes to provide an essential service for young people in the heart of the city”  John Lewis, Chief Executive of Milton Keynes Partnership.

The Community Foundation extends grateful thanks to their property agents Willowbrite; plus contractors, Office Projects Ltd (OPL), and Jackson Coles who have developed the building.

If your voluntary sector organisation is looking for new office or industrial space at subsidised rates in Milton Keynes please contact the Community Foundation on 01908 690276.

Release date: December 3rd 2009.
