Great News for local Artists - two Arts Bursaries now Available
The Milton Keynes Community Foundation is delighted to launch two Arts Bursaries this summer. The awards have been specifically created to enable emerging or aspiring local artists to develop their skills towards a professional career in the arts. Don't miss out on this great funding opportunity - application deadline September 10th.
There are two awards available:
The Foundation’s £8,000 Arts Bursary is available to artists working in any medium. They must demonstrate a desire to develop their artistic career and skills, or the intention to focus on a new body of work. Applicants must have lived in the Milton Keynes Unitary Authority area for the past 12 months. The award can be used for equipment, materials, facilities, training, travel, to rent a work space or to simply support living costs.
The winner of last year’s bursary, Thomas Eccleshare, has been able to focus on establishing his theatre company Dancing Brick, which delivered street performances during the city’s recent IF 2010 – see photo. Thomas explains:
“The Foundation’s Bursary has been an invaluable support to me over the last year … it has allowed me to concentrate on working full time as a theatre maker, provided me with the resources to get a tour off the ground and given me the time to set up fruitful relationships with people across Milton Keynes, the South East and the UK."
In addition the Foundation is proud to announce the new Adams Bursary for Traditional Arts & Crafts. This is a £2,000 award that will be awarded to a local artist involved specifically in traditional arts, including stone masonry, wood work, jewellery, ceramics/pottery, glass, mosaics, textiles, furniture, metalwork and the restoration of paintings, sculptures or buildings. The award can be used for materials tools and/or training.
The deadline for applications for these awards is September 10th 2010. For more information and to download the application forms please visit www.mkcommunityfoundation.co.uk or call the Foundation’s Grants Team on 01908 690276.
